Fujian Fuhua Luhua SEBS 1330G is specified in hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesives for polyolefin-based hygiene lamination and construction membrane joining. Production formulations typically place the polymer at 20–30 wt%, hydrogenated hydrocarbon tackifier at 40–55 wt% with a ring-and-ball softening point of 95–115°C, paraffinic or naphthenic process oil at 15–25 wt%, and phenolic/phosphite stabilizer at 0.1–0.3 wt%. Drum unloaders with platen temperatures of 150–170°C feed gear pumps to slot-die coaters running at 15–60 m/min. Viscosity measured on a Brookfield Thermosel at 177°C remains below 20,000 mPa·s only when oil content exceeds 18 wt%. Below that level, suction limitation at gear pump clearances of 0.050–0.100 mm produces cavitation and coat weight fluctuation beyond ±2.0 g/m². Loop tack measured per ASTM D6195-03 increases with resin softening point reduction, but shear adhesion failure temperature under ASTM D4498-07 falls below 50°C when resin softening point is reduced from 105°C to 95°C. Cohesive failure on polyethylene films is evaluated using ASTM D3654/D3654M-06 where static shear loading at 1 kg and 50°C must exceed 24 h without transfer. Finished products include breathable diaper film lamination, underpad positioning adhesives, and waterproofing membrane seam tapes.
Thermal degradation occurs when platen temperature exceeds 190°C for more than 8 h. Residual gel particles above 100 µm plug slot-die shim gaps and produce visible coating streaks. Batch-to-batch viscosity variation of ±10% is observed on production drum unloaders when incoming pellet moisture exceeds 0.05 wt%. Pre-drying at 70–80°C for 2–4 h in a desiccant dryer is required when storage relative humidity exceeds 60%. The antioxidant package must use hindered phenolic and phosphite chemistry. Amine-based stabilizers are avoided when food-contact status is claimed. Under FDA 21 CFR 177.1810, the base polymer may be referenced for food-contact elastomeric articles subject to extractives end-testing. Under REACH EC 1907/2006, the grade requires confirmation of SVHC content and restriction compliance for the intended adhesive market.
Injection-moulding compounds for automotive soft-touch parts and appliance grips use 25–40 wt% SEBS 1330G dispersed in heterophasic polypropylene carrying 8–12 wt% ethylene comonomer. Compounding is performed on a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with L/D 44 and vacuum venting at −0.08 MPa. Barrel profile runs from 180°C at feed to 220°C at the die. Screw speed of 450–600 rpm governs dispersion quality: residence time below 45 s leaves elongated rubber domains that appear as surface splay and reduce impact toughness. Pelletization through an underwater strand die requires melt temperature above 200°C to prevent cold tearing. Die swell increases from 1.3 mm to 1.8 mm when SEBS content rises from 30 wt% to 50 wt%, requiring die face re-cutting on the pelletizer.
Weld-line strength falls when two flow fronts meet below 190°C because the ethylene/butylene mid-block segments vitrify before entanglement re-establishment. Knit-line impact strength measured by ISO 179-1/1eU falls by 35–50% compared with un-welded reference zones. Production adjustment uses mould temperature of 40–60°C, filling time below 0.8 s, and sequential valve gating. Hardness is specified at Shore A 55–70 per ASTM D2240-15. Automotive cockpit applications require VOC and fogging verification per VDA 278:2011 and DIN 75201-B. Total VOC below 100 µg/g and fogging condensate below 2 mg are typical OEM acceptance limits. End products include vacuum-formed door panel coverings, appliance knob underlays, and power tool overgrips.
Medical tubing compounds containing 30–50 phr SEBS 1330G and 50–70 phr polypropylene or polyolefin elastomer are extruded on single-screw machines with L/D 24–30 and barrier screws at 190–220°C. Outer diameter tolerance of ±0.05 mm requires vacuum calibration and closed-loop haul-off. Melt viscosity variation above ±5% from lot-to-lot is corrected by back-pressure adjustment of 20–40 bar. No plasticizer is added, which avoids DEHP extraction and supports regional phthalate restrictions. Biological evaluation follows ISO 10993-1:2018 for final device classification. Cytotoxicity testing uses ISO 10993-5:2009, irritation and sensitization testing uses ISO 10993-10:2021, and systemic toxicity testing uses ISO 10993-11:2017. Long-term blood-contact claims require ISO 10993-4:2017 haemocompatibility data generated on the finished component. Published data for this specific grade in implantable applications is limited; the device manufacturer must generate endpoint data under ISO 13485 and ISO 14971.
| Standard | Test endpoint | Supplier-side acceptance criterion |
|---|---|---|
| ISO 10993-5:2009 | In vitro cytotoxicity on L-929 fibroblasts | Grade ≤ 2 |
| ISO 10993-10:2021 | Irritation and delayed-type hypersensitivity | Erythema/oedema grade ≤ 1 |
| ISO 10993-11:2017 | Acute systemic toxicity after extract injection | No mortality, no significant body weight change |
| ISO 10993-4:2017 | Haemocompatibility for blood-contacting use | Haemolysis index < 5% |
Gamma irradiation at 25–50 kGy increases crosslinked gel content and may cause surface yellowing unless the formulation includes a free-radical scavenger at 0.2–0.5 wt%. Ethylene oxide sterilization at 55°C and 60% RH leaves residual ethylene oxide below 4 mg/kg only when aeration exceeds 12 h at 40°C. Finished products include respiratory tubing, peristaltic pump segments, dialysis drain tubes, and oxygen cannula connectors.
Membrane producers dissolve 3–8 wt% SEBS 1330G into penetration-grade bitumen at 180–200°C using a rotor-stator homogenizer with tip speed of 18–25 m/s. The polymer absorbs 50–100 parts of aromatic or naphthenic extender oil per 100 parts bitumen to establish a continuous polymer-rich network. Insufficient shear leaves discrete polymer domains that fail to produce a complex modulus plateau between 30°C and 80°C. Softening point per ASTM D36 rises from 45°C to 85–110°C as polymer content increases. Penetration per ASTM D5 falls from 60–70 dmm to 35–45 dmm. Elastic recovery measured by ASTM D6084 exceeds 70% only above 4.5 wt% polymer content. Final products include torch-applied foundation membranes, bridge deck sheets, and self-adhesive wall tanking systems.
Storage stability is measured in a 72 h tube test at 163°C. A softening-point difference exceeding 2.5°C between top and bottom fractions indicates insufficient compatibility and requires compatibilizing aromatic extract or reduced polymer concentration. Mixing temperature must not exceed 210°C because oxidative chain scission of the ethylene/butylene mid-block lowers elongation at break and generates acrid volatiles. Calcium carbonate filler at 15–30 wt% is added after polymer dispersion to control tack and improve torch-grade flammability. Cold flexibility at −10°C is checked per ASTM D5147. Low-temperature cracking occurs when polymer content drops below 3 wt% or when extender oil carries more than 30% aromatic carbon. For membranes installed beneath buildings, PAH content below 10 mg/kg under EU 1272/2013 and REACH registration duties apply.
Flame-retardant jacketing compounds are formulated with 10–20 wt% SEBS 1330G, 20–35 wt% magnesium hydroxide or aluminum trihydrate, and 10–20 wt% polypropylene or ethylene-vinyl acetate carrier. Twin-screw compounding at 170–190°C must keep hydrate filler surface moisture below 0.1 wt% to prevent microporosity. Pre-drying at 80°C for 3–6 h is standard on production lines. Limiting oxygen index measured by ASTM D2863 rises to 28–32% O₂ when total mineral filler reaches 55–65 wt%, while tensile elongation per ASTM D638-14 falls below 150%. Wire extrusion uses a 24:1 L/D single-screw extruder with compression ratio 2.8 and barrier screw generating 180–250 bar. Crosshead die temperature of 180–200°C minimizes die swell, which rises with SEBS molecular weight. Smoke density per IEC 61034-2 and acid gas emission per IEC 60754-1 are relevant for public-transport indoor cable. RoHS 2011/65/EU restricts lead-based heat stabilizers and phthalates in the final compound. End products include appliance wire jackets, battery harness covers, and charging cable sheaths.
SEBS 1330G is used at 30–45 wt% in PP-based overmoulding compounds for toys, toothbrush handles, pen barrels, and detachable kitchenware grips. Two-shot injection machines with clamp force 150–250 t run first-shot PP substrates at 230°C and second-shot SEBS compounds at 200–220°C. Mould surface temperature is held between 30°C and 50°C. Second-shot melt temperature above 220°C causes washout of the first-shot boundary layer. Pressures above 800 bar force flash along the substrate edge. Hardness after overmoulding ranges from Shore A 50 to Shore A 75. Dynamic coefficient of friction on dry hands remains above 0.6 per ISO 8295:1995. Plasticizer-free formulations eliminate phthalate migration. Toy-grade compounds must satisfy EN 71-3:2019+A1:2021 extraction limits for nineteen elements, with lead below 2.0 mg/kg and barium below 1000 mg/kg. End products include toy wheel treads, toothbrush handle grips, pen barrels, and baby bottle sleeve rings.
The main processing limitation is surface tack after repeated cleaning. Low-molecular-weight paraffinic oil above 20 wt% migrates to the surface and raises dynamic friction by 0.2–0.3 units under ISO 8295:1995. Food-contact overmoulded parts fall under FDA 21 CFR 177.1810 or 177.2600 depending on end-use and require extraction testing with n-heptane and 8% ethanol. Autoclaving at 121°C for 30 min softens the compound if PP content is below 25 wt%. For reusable articles, PP content is kept at 30 wt% or higher and oil molecular weight above 450 g/mol. Styrene block content deviation greater than ±1.5 wt% creates visible flow marks and gloss variation under automotive interior light sources.

Fujian Fuhua Luhua SEBS 1330G is a linear hydrogenated styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene triblock copolymer supplied in pellet form. The 1330G designation denotes a general-purpose SEBS grade with a nominal bound styrene content of 30 wt%. The saturated ethylene/butylene midblock differentiates it from unsaturated SBS or SIS elastomers by reducing aliphatic unsaturation, which shifts oxidative degradation onset to higher temperatures and improves resistance to ozone, ultraviolet exposure, and polar solvent swelling. Supplier-published certificates of analysis control lot-specific values, and the following table lists typical property ranges for linear SEBS grades with this styrene content.

| Density | 0.90–0.92 g/cm³ | ISO 1183-1:2019 |
| Melt mass-flow rate | 1–8 g/10 min at 230 °C/5 kg | ISO 1133-1:2022 |
| Bound styrene | 29–33 wt% | Supplier mid-infrared or NMR method |
| Hardness | 60–75 Shore A | ASTM D2240-15 |
| Tensile strength | 20–32 MPa | ISO 37:2017 |

The ranges above are not to be read as a sales specification; they are representative polymer-class values used for preliminary formulation and should be replaced by the manufacturer’s lot certificate for release testing.
At 30 wt% styrene, 1330G forms a two-phase morphology in which polystyrene end-blocks act as physical crosslinks inside a continuous ethylene/butylene matrix. Relative to a 20 wt% styrene linear SEBS, the higher styrene fraction raises room-temperature hardness and cohesive strength at equivalent oil loading and narrows the temperature interval over which plastic deformation is recoverable. Compared with a star-branched SEBS of similar styrene content, the linear architecture of 1330G gives lower zero-shear viscosity and lower die swell, improving incorporative dispersion in oil gels but reducing melt strength for free-form profile extrusion. When white paraffinic oil is used at 10 wt% polymer, small-amplitude oscillatory shear at 1 Hz and 25 °C typically yields elastic modulus values between 500 Pa and 1,500 Pa; at 20 wt% polymer, elastic modulus can exceed 5,000 Pa. These values are architecture-class estimates published for styrenic block copolymer gels and should be verified by cone-and-plate rheometry under ISO 3219-2:2021 before use in specification-grade gels.
On production compounding lines, 1330G is processed in co-rotating twin-screw extruders with L/D ratio between 40:1 and 52:1. Feeding is gravimetric, and barrel temperatures are set from 180 °C in the intake zone to 220 °C in the mixing zones, with die temperatures of 210–230 °C. Continuous melt temperature at the die should remain below 250 °C to avoid styrene-end-block depolymerisation and gel-particle formation. Specific mechanical energy input typically falls within 0.12 kWh/kg to 0.18 kWh/kg, depending on screw configuration and oil-injection position. Plasticiser injection after the second kneading block reduces torque and eliminates temperature overshoot near the die. Pre-drying at 80 °C for 2–4 h is required when storage relative humidity exceeds 60%; moisture below this threshold does not normally affect melt processing. Vacuum devolatilisation at −0.08 MPa gauge is maintained for oil-extended compounds to strip low-molecular-weight volatiles and prevent pellet porosity.
For injection moulding of 1330G-based thermoplastic elastomer compounds, clamp force requirements are generally lower than for semi-crystalline polyolefins of equivalent melt viscosity because the melt is pseudoplastic and solidifies via polystyrene-domain formation rather than crystallisation. A clamp force of 300–500 kN per 100 cm² projected area is often sufficient. Mould temperatures below 40 °C shorten cycle time but may cause gate blush; mould temperatures of 40–60 °C reduce weld-line visibility and improve polystyrene-domain annealing. Shrinkage measured by ISO 294-4:2018 typically ranges from 1.0% to 2.0% depending on oil content and gate geometry. Screw recovery parameters should be adjusted to avoid stagnation in the barrel at 230 °C for more than 10 min; prolonged residence time shifts hardness and yellowness under ISO 17223:2014 colour measurement.
Hot-melt pressure-sensitive adhesives formulated with 1330G are mixed at 160–180 °C under inert gas in sigma-blade mixers or vertical twin-screw extruders. Brookfield viscosity at 180 °C depends on tackifier chemistry; aliphatic C5 resins reduce melt viscosity more than hydrogenated rosin esters, while aromatic-modified C5 resins increase peel adhesion on polar substrates. Loop tack measured by PSTC-16 on stainless steel commonly falls between 3.0 N/cm and 6.0 N/cm, and 180° peel adhesion measured by ASTM D3330/D3330M-04 can be adjusted from 2 N/cm to 8 N/cm by changing tackifier loading from 40 phr to 80 phr. Published grade-specific pressure-sensitive adhesive data for 1330G is limited; these intervals represent linear SEBS with 30 wt% styrene and must be confirmed with a formulated adhesive trial.
Oil molecules selectively swell the ethylene/butylene midblock while leaving the polystyrene domains mostly intact, provided that processing and service temperatures remain below the polystyrene glass transition. At 100 phr paraffinic oil, compression set measured according to ASTM D395-18 after 22 h at 23 °C remains below 35% in a typical 1330G compound; the same formulation tested after 22 h at 70 °C commonly rises to 55–70%. The increase in permanent set at elevated temperature is attributed to plasticisation of the interfacial polystyrene domains and increased free volume in the swollen midblock, not to chemical degradation alone. Additives that increase polystyrene-domain strength, such as aliphatic hydrocarbon resins with softening points above 130 °C, can reduce hot compression set by 5–10 percentage points, but they increase compounding viscosity. Oil bleeding after compression can be evaluated gravimetrically or by the paper-contact method described in ASTM D1742-14; oil retention in the base polymer is finite, and formulations above 150 phr oil typically require crosslinkable SEBS or added polyolefin phases to prevent exudation during storage at 40 °C.
When the final compound is intended for medical device components, the raw SEBS does not confer medical-grade status. Finished parts must be evaluated for cytotoxicity under ISO 10993-5:2009 and for skin sensitisation under ISO 10993-10:2010. Gamma sterilisation at 25–50 kGy induces crosslinking in the saturated midblock; hardness may increase by 2–5 Shore A after 50 kGy. The formulator should avoid phenolic antioxidants that produce coloured quinones under radiation and should select synthetic hydrotalcite acid scavengers where clarity is required. For food-contact applications, the finished article may be evaluated under FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 for rubber articles intended for repeated food contact; FDA 21 CFR 177.1810 applies to olefin polymers and does not automatically cover SEBS compounds. Compliance under the REACH regulation and RoHS 3 Directive 2011/65/EU must be demonstrated on the final compound, including restricted substances and SVHC candidate-list substances.

|---|---|---|
| Medical device components | ISO 10993-5:2009 | Cytotoxicity |
| Repeated food contact | FDA 21 CFR 177.2600 | Extractables/migration |
| EU market restriction | REACH, 2011/65/EU | SVHC and restricted substances |
| Hot-melt PSA peel | ASTM D3330/D3330M-04 | 180° peel adhesion |

Capillary rheometry of 1330G at 200 °C shows pseudoplastic behaviour: apparent viscosity decreases by approximately one order of magnitude as shear rate increases from 10 s⁻¹ to 1,000 s⁻¹. At 200 °C and 100 s⁻¹, apparent viscosity for uncompounded 1330G is typically between 800 Pa·s and 2,000 Pa·s; oil extension at 100 phr reduces the same value to 50–200 Pa·s. Because shear heating in tightly intermeshing twin-screw extruders can exceed the barrel set point by 10–20 °C, screw speed should be adjusted from 250 rpm to 450 rpm only after melt-temperature data from the die probe confirms a safe margin below 250 °C. Higher speeds improve dispersion of tackifier resins in adhesives but shorten residence time at high shear; if the resin melting point is above 140 °C, at least two kneading blocks should be placed before the resin injection port to avoid unplasticised polymer domains. Melt pressure before the die pack should be maintained below 15 MPa to prevent screen-pack blowout and excessive residence-time scatter.
In polymer-modified bitumen for road overlays, 1330G is introduced at 4–8 wt% of bitumen in high-shear mixers at 180–190 °C for 60–120 min. Dispersing the SEBS into the maltene phase raises softening point by 5–15 °C under ASTM D36/D36M-14 and lowers penetration by 10–30 dmm under ASTM D5/D5M-21. Elastic recovery measured by ASTM D6084-22 at 25 °C typically increases above 50% in well-dispersed formulations. If polymer content is below 4 wt%, storage stability at 160 °C may be insufficient, and phase separation can appear within 24–48 h in static tanks. Published grade-specific bitumen data for 1330G is limited; the ranges specified are derived from SEBS-modified binder engineering studies and should be confirmed through plant trials.
